Biogeography

This course is one of your 4th-year courses required to fulfill the Geography and Environmental Studies degree.

Enrollment in this course is by invitation only

This course delves into the spatial distribution of life on Earth, ecosystem functions, environmental factors, and key biogeographic processes. It combines digital tools, interactive activities, and in-person sessions to foster a comprehensive understanding of biogeography.

The course introduces fundamental ideas and concepts that serve as the foundation for advanced studies in Geography and Environmental Studies.

Throughout the course, you will explore the scope, origin, and development of biogeography, as well as the evolution and distribution of life, environmental limitations of ecosystems, and the dynamics of biogeographic processes. Key topics include ecosystem successions, energy circulation, biogeochemical cycles, and the characteristics of major terrestrial and aquatic biomes.

Additionally, the course examines biodiversity, the factors influencing living organisms and their environments, and the assessment of human impact on the environment.

By the end of this course, you will have a solid foundation in biogeography, equipping you with the knowledge necessary for further learning and exploration in environmental studies.
