Understanding the objectives and methods of legal research is essential for legal professionals to effectively navigate the complexities of the legal landscape.
The primary objectives include explaining the concept, purpose, and challenges of scientific legal research, discussing the fundamental elements and rules of legal research methods, as well as their scope and application. Additionally, it involves explaining the various categories and types of legal research, highlighting the importance of legal research in identifying and resolving legal and socio-legal issues.
Furthermore, it entails outlining the basic techniques for selecting, collecting, and interpreting primary and secondary data in legal and socio-legal research. It also involves identifying legal issues that arise from the application or non-application of the law, and explaining the significance and role of legal research in law reform, development, and the socio-economic progress of the country.
The course is divided into four chapters. Chapter One covers Research Hypothesis, Chapter Two covers Sampling, Chapter three cover Writing a Research Report, and Data Analysis and Interpretations. Each unit includes five graded multiple-choice questions.
