This course will introduce basic concepts of population statistics and demography; Growth and age structure of human populations; Regional and spatial distribution of a population; Analysis of Mortality: Crude and adjusted death rate, Age specific mortality rate, Infant and child mortality and maternal death rate; Analysis of fertility: marriage, fertility, crude fertility rate, age specific fertility rate, gross and net reproduction rate; other measures of fertility; Immigration and Emigration and their measurement; Life table construction; Indirect techniques; Population projection.
