Information Systems Project Management
This course introduces students to the principles, processes, techniques, and tools necessary to manage information systems projects.
Information system projects are everyday occurrences in organizations. We develop software, we build network infrastructures, we train people, or we evaluate the performance of systems. To successfully complete such projects within a specific period using the allotted financial resources needs proper technical as well as management skills. This course is designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required to manage such information system projects. The course will allow students to focus on the theoretical and practical knowledge to plan, execute, control, and close information system projects. Major topics include principles of project management; project management functions, project management processes, selecting an appropriate project management methodology, agile software development principles, and scrum. Emphasis is placed on understanding and gaining practical knowledge of key project management skills: integration management, scope management, time management, cost management, quality management, human resource management, communications management, and risk management. Emphasis is also placed on understanding the scrum process and decision criteria for choosing between planned and agile project management approaches.
