By the end of this topic, learners will be able to:

 

  • Define infertility and recognize its prevalence in different populations.
  • Analyze the psychological, emotional, and social impacts of infertility on individuals and couples.
  • Distinguish between primary and secondary infertility.
  •  Identify common causes of infertility in both men and women.
  •  Explain the various diagnostic tests and procedures used to assess infertility.
  • Discuss the range of treatment options available for infertility.
  • Identify the various types of ART, such as in vitro fertilization (IVF), intrauterine insemination (IUI), and egg/sperm donation, and describe their processes.
  • Compare and contrast the effectiveness, risks, and ethical considerations of different ART methods.
  • Articulate the importance of ethical considerations in the use of ART and respect for diverse perspectives on family building.
  • Develop a comprehensive care plan for a couple experiencing infertility that includes medical, emotional, and social support components.
  • Assess the impact of counselling on the emotional well-being of individuals or couples undergoing infertility treatment.
  • Evaluate support resources available for individuals’ experiencing infertility.
